It was a balmy 40 degrees for the 27th annual Frostbite 4, held last Saturday, Feb. 7, in Beresford.
This year, 94 youngsters participated in the Mayor’s Mile event with 312 competing in the 2 and 4 mile options of the Frostbite 4.
Age participation in the 2 and 4-mile events ranged from 7 to 80 years of age with runners coming from Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Nebraska, and South Dakota to participate.
Anna Klungseth sang the National Anthem to kick off the event. Special recognition this year went to retired City Administrator Jerry Zeimitz, who was honored with the Friend of the Watchdog Award for his support and contributions to the school and the community through the many years.
Meanwhile, the Brad and Noelle Muller Family served as Honorary Starters, helping kick off the event.
Following the race, participants and guests gathered at the Bridges Golf Course, where Colton Laubach provided live entertainment. Attendees enjoyed a warm soup and salad meal, creating a great post-race atmosphere for runners, families, and supporters. Awards and trophies were presented at the course, and 605 Running generously supplied all race gift cards, helping recognize top finishers and participants.
This year’s top finishers included:
4 Mile Run: Top Males – Jacob Vander Plaats. 26 years old, Sioux Center, 19:56
4 Mile Run: Top Females – Hannah Genrich 14 years old, Sioux Falls 22:49
2 Mile Run: Top Males – Brayden Mahlum 23 years old, Tea 12:43
