The City of Alcester has been awarded a grant from the South Dakota Department of Game, Fish, and Parks’ Recreational Trails Program in the amount of $110,600.40 for work toward the Herb Anderson Memorial Park revitalization.
The Recreational Trails Program (RTP) is a federal aid assistance program administered by the South Dakota Department of Game, Fish, and Parks to help build and maintain recreational trails for both motorized and non-motorized use. The program provides up to 80 percent reimbursement funds for all kinds of recreational trail uses.
“We are honored to receive the Recreational Trails grant from the State of South Dakota for the revitalization of Herb Anderson Memorial Park,” said Alcester Mayor Lisa Hodgson. “This grant gives us the momentum to move the project forward, preserving Herb Anderson’s legacy while creating a safe space future generations can enjoy. Although this grant helps us get started, continued support and funding will be essential to fully complete the project.”
Undertaken by community volunteers, the Herb Anderson Memorial Park revitalization project is intended to bring the park into the 21st century and provide for future generations of families to enjoy. The grant will be utilized for improving and adding additional walking paths through the park to encourage safe travel through the park as well as a place for patrons to exercise and enjoy nature.
