On behalf of the SDML Workers’ Compensation Fund and the South Dakota Public Assurance Alliance, the employees of the City of Beresford received Gold and Platinum Level Safety & Loss Control Recognition Awards at the annual South Dakota Municipal League Conference in Pierre, SD on October 1. This award honors employees for their efforts in protecting the assets of the City of Beresford by making the workplace safer for employees, reducing liability exposures and saving the taxpayers’ dollars, through loss control.
The City received Gold and Platinum Level Awards and was one of thirty-six entities recognized for their safety and loss control efforts. This was the seventh time they received an award.
The SDML Workers’ Compensation Fund was created in 1987 as a method of providing workers’ compensation coverage for employees of local government entities in South Dakota. During its longevity, it has provided competitive rates, outstanding customer service and a strong safety and loss control program to the now 524 members.
The Pool is governed by a nine-member board of trustees chaired by Brittany Smith, City Administrator for the City of Philip. “Our focus has been to provide stable rates to our members. The affordability aspect of the Pool over the last 38 years has enabled our members to use the money saved to fund other areas of their budget,’’ said Smith.
The Fund is a non-assessable risk sharing pool available to Municipalities, Counties, Townships, Conservation Districts and other Special Districts throughout South Dakota and is endorsed by the South Dakota Municipal League and the South Dakota Association of County Commissioners.
