Organizers of this year’s community-wide Thanksgiving dinner in Beresford are expecting more than 500 guests to attend the feast.
This year’s menu offers a traditional Thanksgiving spread of turkey, meatballs, mashed potatoes and gravy, green bean casserole, sweet potatoes, pistachio salad, cranberry relish, buns, and pie.
The meal will be served on Thanksgiving Day, Thurs., Nov. 27, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Bridges of Beresford. All are invited to attend.
The event is funded by private donations and grants from the Beresford Foundation and United Way as a way for the entire community to come together to enjoy food and fellowship on Thanksgiving Day.
Of course, it takes an army of volunteers to make the event happen.
“There are many volunteers to thank,” said volunteer Marsha Nelson. “I’m so thankful for our core committee: Joann Paulsen, Darla Jacob, Brad and Glenda Johnson, Chris and Carla Lawrenson, and David and Marsha Nelson. The committee has put in countless hours to make this special event happen.”
For those still wishing to lend a hand, help is still needed.
“We can always use more volunteers, donations, and we can always use prayer for the committee, prep of the meal, weather and for people to come out and share a meal together and be blessed!” said Nelson.
Any questions about volunteering or donations, please contact Joann at 605-656-0989 or Marsha at 605-321-5377.
This is the second year for the resurrected Beresford community Thanksgiving meal. The initiative was brought back last year after a five-year hiatus. The original Thanksgiving dinner was started and run by Troy and Cindy Madal and then continued by Jim and Joyce Fedderson, Milt Hustadt, Deb Bontje and Vicky Rhyder through 2019.
The first community Thanksgiving meal in 2012 served around 50 people. In 2019, over 600 people were served. Last year’s resurrected Thanksgiving dinner served more than 400 people. This year’s total is expected to reach 500.
