Cubs fall to tough St. Mary’s team

The A-H Cubs fell 20-34 to a tough Saint Mary’s Cardinals team on Friday, Oct. 10, during regular season play.

In the first quarter of the game, the Cubs kept pace with the Cardinals, scoring 8 to their 8. Ethan Brown scored on a 10-yard TD pass from Tommy Walth for 6, and then Tommy Walth scored an additional two on the conversion on a three-yard rush to end the quarter 8-8.

In the second quarter, the Cubs could not get on the board, but St. Mary’s scored 6 to make a half-time score of 8-14.

In the second half, Darin Dykstra scored on a 50-yard rush TD. The third quarter ended 26 St. Mary’s, 14 Cubs.

In the 4th quarter, St. Mary’s scored twice. The Cubs got a one-yard rush TD by Tommy Walth for an ending score of 34-20 with the Cardinals on top.

Rushing leaders for the Cubs were Tommy Walth with 19 rushes for 79 yards and Darin Dykstra with 9 rushes for 95 yards. Passing leader was Tommy Walth with 8 completions for 89 yards. Receiving leaders were Dykstra, Jackson Meyer, and Owen Serck. Defensive leaders were Dykstra with 9.5 tackles, Serck with 7.5 tackles, and Karzen Sommervold with 6.5 tackles.
