The Cubs’ football season has come to an end with a disappointing loss to the Howard Tigers during semi-final playoff action last Friday, Nov. 7, at home. The Cubs fell 12-18 to the Tigers, who are now headed to the Dome.

Still, it was a great season for the Cubs, and the Cubs’ coaches are proud of the boys, they said.

“This was a great group of young men to work with!” said Head Coach Brian Haak. “They played as a team and represented their school, communities, and team with class. The seniors will be missed.”

Said Cubs Defensive Coach Mitch Johnson: “I am very proud of the effort and enthusiasm that our boys played with all year. It was a difficult ending to a year where our boys fought against tough opponents each and every week. This was a special group of young men that were great to coach.”

Last Friday’s game began with Howard getting on the board first. Then, Tommy Walth answered with a two-yard rush to tie the game 6-6. But Howard quickly returned the ball to their side of the field to move the score to 12-6 by the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Darin Dykstra tied the game for the Cubs with a 22-yard rush TD, making the score 12-12 heading into half-time.

No-one scored in the third quarter and the game remained 12-12.

In the fourth quarter, after the Cubs came up short of a first down by inches, Howard took the ball and was able to score a two-yard rush TD to win the game 18-12.

Rushing leaders for the Cubs were Darin Dykstra with 15 rushes for 96 yards and Tommy Walth with 15 rushes for 64 yards. Receiving leaders were Jackson Meyer with two and Karzen Sommervold with two. Defensive leaders were Meyer with 8 tackles, Owen Serck with 5.5 tackles, and Ethan Brown with 5 tackles.

The Cubs ended the 2025 season with an impressive 8-3 record, as well as making it all the way to semi-final playoff action.

Congratulations, Cubs, on a well-done season!
