Cubs skunk the Trappers at A-H Homecoming

The Cubs skunked the Scotland-Menno Trappers 64-16 during Alcester-Hudson’s Homecoming game Friday, Oct. 17.

In the first quarter, the Cubs started things off with a bang, scoring 20 points. Tommy Walth had a one-yard rush TD to start the game. Jackson Meyer then made a TD after a four-yard pass from Walth. Darin Dykstra added two more points with a three-yard rush conversion to bring the score to 0-14. Meyer caught a 45-yard pass from Walth to bring the first-quarter ending score to 0-20.

In the second quarter, Evan Haak caught a 5-yard pass from Walth for the TD and Meyer got a three-yard pass from Walth to bring the score to 0-28. The Trappers then finally got on the board with a TD and conversion to bring the score to 8-28. The Cubs answered with a TD and conversion (Meyer on a 14-yard pass from Walth and Walth with a three-yard rush).

The score at half-time was 8-36.

In the third quarter, Jackson Meyer added another TD on a 38-yard pass from Walth. Jacob Cole brought in another TD on a nine-yard pass from Walth to increase the lead to 48-8. Walth evened it out to 50-8 on a three-yard rush conversion.

In the fourth quarter, the Trappers scored a TD and conversion, and, with JV players in the game, the Cubs added to their lead with a 77-yard rush by Liam Moumy for the TD, a three-yard rush conversion by Tate Braaten, and then a TD by Rylan Almlie on an eight-yard pass from Moumy to increase the Cubs’ lead.

The ending score to the game was 64-16, Cubs.

Statistically, Darin Dykstra had 10 rushes for 116 yards and Laim Moumy had 4 rushes for 109 yards. Walth contributed five rushes for 31 yards. Walth was the passing leader with 13 completions of 15 attempts for 232 yards, resulting in six TDs.

Defensive leaders were Darin Dykstra with 5 tackles, Owen Serck with 4.5 tackles, and Karzen Sommervold with 4 tackles.

The team will face the Deubrook Dolphins in the first round of playoffs at home this Thursday, Oct. 23, at 7 p.m.
