Daniel E. Haeder, 64 of Alcester, SD, passed away at his home on Friday, October 3, 2025.

Memorial Service will be at 5:00 p.m., Thursday, October 9, 2025 at Union Creek Lutheran Church in rural Akron, Union County, SD. Burial with military honors will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation with the family will begin at 3:00 p.m. at the church and continue until the service time. Arrangements are with Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron, Iowa. Daniel Edward Haeder was born on February 16, 1961 in Huron, South Dakota to Richard and Mary (Allbee) Haeder. He was raised near Huron and Wolsey, SD and graduated from Wolsey High School in 1979. During high school, he joined the Army National Guard and enlisted in the Army after graduation. Dan served while stationed in Korea and after his honorable discharge he returned to South Dakota.

Dan was united in marriage to Mary (Schulte) Letcher on June 13, 1987 and they had five children: Sarah, Royce, Janel, Julie, and Paula. They later divorced.

Dan went back to school at Mitchell Technical College and graduated with a degree in electronic communications technology. Dan worked a few various jobs over the years and spent several years teaching at Mitchell Technical College.

Dan was united in marriage to Rebecca (Dunham) Kjose on December 6, 2019 and they made their home in Alcester, SD. He worked at Custom Coils and was most recently working at Alkota Cleaning Systems in Alcester.

Dan enjoyed going fishing and hunting in his younger years. He was a member of the city council in Emery, SD and when he moved to Alcester, he was on the council there as well as served as the mayor. Dan and Becky enjoyed a memorable trip to the Black Hills early in their relationship. They enjoyed their date nights out to eat and going for walks. Dan was a current member of Union Creek Lutheran Church where he also served on the church council.

Dan is survived by his wife, Becky; mother in law, Neoma Dunham; children: Sarah (David) Hutcheson, Royce Haeder, Janel (Brian) Mueller, Julie (Tony) Franzwa, Paula (Mac Sellars) Haeder, Tessa (Ben) De Wit, Lakin (Shawn) Runcie, Kade (Anna) Kjose, Ian (Taylor) Kjose; grandchildren: Clementine Hutcheson, Jesse Haeder, Kendra Haeder, Lilly Haeder, Jocelyn Enfield, Wyatt Enfield, Zachary Mueller, Everly Mueller, Eloise De Wit, Roman De Wit, Mathias Kjose, Esther Kjose, Olivia Kjose, and Lainey Kjose; siblings: Mary (Scott) Martens, Doug (Dorothy) Haeder, Tom (Carolyn) Haeder, and Howard (Linda) Haeder; siblings in law: Dianna (Nathan) Marbrey, Thomas (Kay) Dunham, and Wanda (Michael) Hartle; nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.

Dan is preceded in death by his parents and his father in law, Robert Dunham.
