The Beresford Watchdogs built early momentum Friday night, Oct. 17, but a strong second-half surge lifted the Flandreau Fliers to a 21-14 comeback win in the final game of the regular season.

Beresford’s offense came alive in the second quarter behind quarterback Ashton Oberle and senior receiver Malachi James. Oberle connected with James for a 29-yard touchdown midway through the quarter, then found him again for a 13-yard score with just three seconds left in the half. The Watchdogs carried a 14-6 lead into the locker room, controlling the pace and energy throughout the first half.

The second half, however, belonged to the Fliers. Flandreau’s defense held Beresford scoreless over the final two quarters while their offense found the end zone twice to rally for the win.

Despite the tough loss, several Watchdogs turned in strong performances. Malachi James led the receiving attack with 9 catches for 111 yards and 2 touchdowns, while Ian Henderson added 6 receptions for 44 yards.

On defense, Tate Lyle tallied 5 solo tackles and a fumble recovery, Payden Hoffman recorded 6 solo tackles and one assist, and Landry Simms anchored the unit with 6 solo tackles and 6 assists.

Beresford finished the season with a 2-6 record, showing flashes of promise throughout a year marked by close contests and steady improvement.
