Approximately 630 students in the Beresford School District began a new school year this week.
For the most part, faculty, students, and staff were ready to be back, they said.
“We are excited about welcoming our students back and meeting our newest Watchdogs,” said Dustin Degen, Superintendent of the Beresford School District. “More so, we are excited to build upon our successes and experiences related to our four pillars: academics and achievement, fine arts, athletics, and servant leadership.”
The four pillars comprise the Watchdog experience, says Degen.
“We have been proud of our academic gains across the district,” he said. “We look forward to continuing our work as we help each child prepare for their next step.”
The District is in a building transformation phase this year.
The upcoming building project includes a secure academic entrance, a renovated activity and event lobby, new concessions area, new lobby restrooms, a kitchen remodel, an auxiliary gymnasium, and office space remodel.
“We are excited about our continuous improvements to our buildings and infrastructure as we look to meet current and future needs across the District,” Degen said. “During the 2025-2026 school year, we will continue our efforts to live our excellence through our strategic plans that feature our four pillars.”
This year, the District is welcoming the following new staff members: Elizabeth Parks. elementary Special Education educator; Ashley Prieto, Multilingual Learner Coordinator and educator; Amber Block, high school English educator; Noah Guse, elementary Physical Education educator; Emily Hinsch, middle and high school paraprofessional; Andrea Vallejos, Multilingual Learner Tutor; Cali Boden, Assistant Volleyball Coach; Elise Reinalda, Junior High Girls’ Basketball Coach; Kayla Bullis, Junior High Volleyball Coach; and Carson Johnsen, Theater Director.
