Susan Elaine Ambur, 95, of Beresford, South Dakota, passed away on Saturday, November 22, 2025, surrounded by her family. For the past five years, she resided in Brookings, South Dakota, at various care facilities.
She was born July 20, 1930, in Beresford, South Dakota, to Minna and Ernest Smith. Susan earned her degree in Education from the University of South Dakota and taught in Sioux Falls and Beresford while raising her family. She married Robert Ambur, and together they farmed near Beresford. Susan enjoyed reading, sewing, quilting, and was active in her children’s 4-H activities.
She is survived by her five children: Roberta “Bobbi” (Jim Means) Ambur of Yankton; Jill (Gary) Wiesner of Pickstown; Lori Ambur of Boise, Idaho; Janet Ambur (Steve Galliger) of Brookings; and Gregg (Teresa) Ambur of San Diego, California; along with nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert, her parents, and her brothers Kendall and Pierce Smith.
Funeral services for Susan Elaine Ambur will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 30, 2025, at Beresford Zion United Methodist Church. Visitation will take place on Saturday, November 29, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., with a prayer service beginning at 6:30 p.m.
