Obituary reprinted at request of the family
Diane W. Larson, born on August 15, 1955, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to Donald and Betty (McDonald) Anderson, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2025, at her home near Beresford, surrounded by her devoted family. She was 69 years old.
Diane grew up in Sioux Falls and graduated from Washington High School. Her life took a beautiful turn when she met Charles Larson at the Fireside Lounge, where his band was performing. The two married on July 7, 1984, at Komstad Lutheran Church, and built a loving home together on the Larson family homestead, raising two children.
Known for her dedication and strong work ethic, Diane spent over three decades at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, retiring as a senior secretary. Her career journey included roles in Security, the Art Department, and the School of Education. Even beyond her full-time job, Diane stayed busy, working remotely for various organizations, most recently contributing to A Place for Mom, a senior living referral service.
Outside of work, Diane found joy in life’s simple pleasures—long walks, a good book, traveling, and indulging in her favorite snack, popcorn.
Diane was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws Gordon & Phyllis Larson; her brother, Donald Anderson; brothers-in-law Mark Kenyon and Tom Erickson; nieces Kayla Larson and Jennifer Anderson; and nephew Chad Anderson.
Cherishing her memory are her husband of 40 years, Chuck Larson; her children, Travis (Kristina) Larson of Frederick, CO, and Amanda Larson of Peoria, AZ; and her treasured grandchildren, Lane and Levi Larson. She is also survived by her siblings: Butch (Katherine) Anderson of Gettysburg, SD; Ronald (Nida) Anderson of Sioux Falls; Linda (Don) Munce of Baltic; Carol Kenyon; and Donna (James) Moeller of Sioux Falls. Additional family includes brother-in-law Greg (Sharon) Larson of Beresford; sisters-in-law Gail (Craig) Andersen of Centerville, Linda Erickson of Beresford, and Jerrine Ostenson of Minneapolis; along with many beloved nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
A Celebration of Life honoring Diane will take place on June 28th at The Bridges of Beresford Event Center from 1 until 5 p.m. A special service will be held at 2 p.m. All are welcome.
