Jim passed away on June 1, 2025, at home in Chandler, Arizona. He was 77 years old. Jim was born on June 30, 1947, in Akron, Iowa, and grew up on the family farm south of Alcester to parents Gilbert and Evelyn Ekren. He attended Nora Country School and graduated in 1966 from Alcester High School. In 1981, he moved to Arizona and later worked for Bashas as a carpenter. In 1982, he married Donna VanSickle. In his leisure time, he loved hunting and fishing. He is preceded in death by his parents Gilbert and Evelyn Ekren.
He is survived by his wife Donna and their son Thomas (Arlison) Ekren of Gilbert, Arizona. He is also survived by daughters Charity (Kevin) Archer of Sioux City, Iowa, and Leslie (Jeff) Johnson of Jefferson, SD, along with eight grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law Glenice and Larry Pilla.
He will be buried with a small ceremony at the Nora Cemetery at a later date.
