Area children ages 3-14 encouraged to compete for the various titles

A Summertime Wonderland Pageant is being planned to happen in Alcester in August, and area children ages 3 to 14 are encouraged to get involved.
The event is the brainchild of teenagers and sisters Emma and Paxtyn Moller and friend Izzac Sommervold, who are hoping to encourage volunteerism and community involvement through the pageant. The event will benefit the non-profit organization, Santa & Mrs. C’s Kids, by providing some “helpers” for Santa & Mrs. C at upcoming holiday events happening September through December.
To earn a coveted title at the pageant, boys and girls ages 3 to 5 will complete for the titles of Mr. & Mrs. Christmas, while those ages 6 to 8 will vie for the titles of Mr. & Miss Blizzard. Youth ages 9 to 11 will be going after the titles of Mr. and Mrs. Candycane, and those 12 to 14 will compete for the titles of Mr. & Miss Tinsel.
Contestants will compete in a formal wear category and an interview. They will also answer an on-stage question. It will be a fun event for all participants, who will gain confidence and life skills while enjoying time with friends, say the Mollers. Those who eventually win the coveted titles will earn prizes and the opportunity and obligation to assist Santa & Mrs. Claus with various events between August and Christmas.
“We really wanted to promote volunteering with this event,” says Paxtyn, an experienced pageant participant who was the 2024 National American Miss South Dakota Jr. Teen. “We think it’s a good idea to get kids involved in the community and teach them how to volunteer.”
The Summertime Wonderland Pageant will take place August 9. Competitors should sign up by July 26. A QR code and more information can be found on the Royal Ball and Summertime Wonderland Pageant page on Facebook.
The Summertime Wonderland Pageant is the first of several events happening in Alcester that will benefit Santa & Mrs. C’s Kids. The second annual Royal Ball, which started last year and was a wonderful success, will again be held in October to help Santa & Mrs. C’s Kids gather toys for area children. Those who win the titles of Mr. and Mrs. Christmas, Blizzard, Candycane, and Tinsel will assist at the Royal Ball and elsewhere in the community this fall.
