Irene/Wakonda/Gayville/Volin tied the game in the bottom of the seventh and then won with a run in the bottom of the ninth for a 5-4 win over Beresford Jr Legion on Tuesday, July 22.
Beresford scored two runs in the top of the first for an early 2-0 lead. I/W/G/V got a run in the bottom of the second. Beresford added another run in the top of the third. I/W/G/V plated two runs in the bottom of the third to tie the game 3-3. The game remained tied 3-3 until the seventh inning.
Tucker Martz hit a one-out RBI single in the top of the seventh to give Beresford a 4-3 lead. With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, I/W/G/V got an RBI single from Isaac Kruger to tie the game 4-4. Both teams had a good chance to score in the eighth inning but didn’t. I/W/G/V got the game winner on an RBI sacrifice fly by Jeremiah Gustad.
Ethan Bobzin had a home run and double with an RBI. Kason Voss had two hits and an RBI. Cam Mullinix also had two hits. Ashton Oberle finished with a double and an RBI. Tucker Martz had a hit and an RBI. Evan Haak, Ben Seeley, and Lucas Anderson all had one hit each. Seeley pitched four innings and allowed three runs, one earned, on three hits and five walks with five strikeouts. Anderson pitched two innings and had three strikeouts. Oberle tossed 2 2/3 innings and allowed two runs, one earned, on four hits and a walk with three strikeouts.
