FAITH, FAMILY, FRIENDS—and MUSIC

If we were to sum up Donna’s life in a few words, the preceding caption of four words, list the priorities of her life. This was her favorite quote found in many places throughout her home. She lived this and believed it with daily devotions, family and times with friends.

Donna M. Anderson was born March 4, 1933 in Akron, Iowa to Herbert and Olive (Hofstad) Clementson. She passed away August 2, 2025 in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 92 years. She loved the town of Alcester, and often said I never want to live anywhere else.

Donna started school at Pleasant Valley country school in rural Elk Point SD. Her family moved in 1941 to a farm northeast of Alcester where she attended Huggins school. She graduated as Valedictorian with the Alcester High School class of 1951. Donna’s classmates were always important to her and she kept in touch with many. Donna married her high-school sweetheart, Roger A. Anderson, on September 19, 1951 at Nathanael Lutheran Church.

Shortly after they married, Roger went to the service. Donna went to work for Dr. Eneboe in Hawarden. When Roger returned from the service Donna began working at State Bank of Alcester. She stayed home while raising her four children, but when children were school age, she returned to the bank. She started as a teller, book keeper and assistant cashier, her later years was Marketing Manager of Prime Visions. She and Roger loved being guides for the bank’s Prime Vision bus tours. She worked for the bank retiring after 40 years. She still enjoyed meeting often with her “Bank Girls” for lunch or coffee. She was referred to as the “Bank Mom”. After retirement Donna kept busy a manager for the Alcester Town House Apartments.

Donna will be remembered for her love of music. She was taught at a young age to play the church organ. She was the Alcester Baptist church organist for over 65 years. She played for Roger as he sang at many events and funerals. You could come to her home and often hear her playing through the door. She loved to play piano with her great grandchildren.

Donna was active in the community as a 4-H Leader, Red Hat member, Alcester Baptist church Ladies Aide and helped in many community events over the years. Roger and Donna enjoyed setting up the Christmas “Live Nativity” for many years. She often helped out on the farm. Roger and Donna were often seen at all children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren’s events. They were avid supporters of the Alcester Cubs. Donna loved the Union County fair. She was able to enjoy one more piece of Lions Club Pie. She loved being at the fairgrounds daily supporting friends and family. Donna enjoyed entertaining and often enjoyed coffee time with friends. You would see Donna many times eating out for lunch with friends. Giving up her car was difficult but her special friends, Jerry and Sharon Joachim, often picked her up for lunch which meant so much to her. Her greatest joy was being together as a family. She prayed daily for each one of her family members. It was written in her journals often said she wants to see all her children and their families in heaven one day.

Grateful for having shared her life are her four children, Darla (Doug) Reppe and Keith (Lori) Anderson of Alcester, Mary Jane (Chris) Rasmussen of Viborg, SD and Kent (Angie) Anderson of Alcester; brother, Jim (Connie) Clementson of Beresford; 12 grandchildren and their spouses. 35 great-grandchildren (with one on the way) many cousins, nieces, nephews and multiple friends.

Joining her in heaven are her parents, her husband of 65 years, Roger; her sister Joann, and brother Jack.

Funeral services will be 2 PM Thursday, August 7, 2025 at Alcester Baptist Church, 409 Iowa Street, Alcester, SD. Visitation will be 5-7PM Wednesday at the church with a 7 PM prayer service.
