Beresford Area Jr Legion finishes 4-1 at Buffalo Wild Wings Classic

The Beresford Jr Legion team finished 4-1 at the Buffalo Wild Wings Classic held in the Brookings area Friday, July 11, through Sunday, July 13. Beresford went 4-0 in pool play but lost the semifinal game of bracket play.

Beresford 9, Yankton BlackSox 1
In the opening pool play game, Beresford took the lead in the bottom of the first with a run. Yankton tied the game, 1-1, with a run in the top of the second. Beresford then scored two in the bottom of the second, two in the third, one in the fourth, and three in the fifth for the 9-1 win.
Kason Voss had two hits and an RBI. Ashton Oberle also had two hits, one a triple. Ian Henderson had a single and an RBI. Cam Mullinix had a hit. Ethan Bobzin added two RBIs. Charlie Eide and Lucas Anderson both had an RBI. Oberle pitched five innings and allowed an unearned run on three hits and a walk with seven strikeouts.
Beresford 4, East River Nationals 3
A late rally helped Beresford to a win in their second pool play game. East River Nationals scored two runs in the top of the second. Beresford cut the lead to 2-1 with a run in the bottom of the fifth. East River Nationals added a run in the top of the sixth. Beresford would tie the game with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Voss scored on a ground ball from Anderson for the game-winning run in the seventh.
Voss finished with a double, and Bobzin had a single. Eide finished with two RBIs, and Anderson had one RBI. Tucker Martz pitched seven innings and allowed three runs, just one earned, on six hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

Beresford 9, Marshall Orange 2
A five-run fifth inning helped Beresford put the game out of reach in the first game on Saturday. After two scoreless innings, Beresford scored a run in the top of the third. They added two more in the fourth for a 3-0 lead. Marshall got a run back in the bottom of the fourth, but Beresford then plated five runs in the top of the fifth for an 8-1 lead. Each team got one run in the sixth inning.
Henderson finished with three hits and three RBIs. Voss had two singles and two RBIs. Evan Haak had a single with an RBI. Bobzin had a double. Hogan Hybertson added a single. Eide had an RBI. Voss pitched seven innings and allowed two earned runs on five hits and three walks with four strikeouts.

Beresford 9, Minneota 2
Beresford finished pool play with their fourth win after a 9-2 victory over Minneota. They took the lead in the top of the third with four big runs. Minneota cut the lead in half, 4-2, with two in the bottom of the sixth. Beresford put the game away with a five-run top of the seventh inning.
Oberle had two hits, including a double. Voss had a single with two RBIs. Haak ended with a double and an RBI. Eide had a single and an RBI. Bobzin, Martz, and Alex Adams all had one hit each. Haak pitched four innings and allowed a hit and two walks with four strikeouts. Anderson pitched 1 1/3 innings and allowed two runs, one earned, on two hits. Oberle threw 1 2/3 innings and allowed a hit with two strikeouts.

Watertown 2, Beresford 0
In the semifinal bracket play on Sunday, Watertown broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fifth inning. They scored two times for the only two runs in the game to advance to the championship game.
Henderson, Bobzin, Eide, and Haak all had a single in the game. Henderson pitched seven innings and allowed two runs, one earned, on three hits and three walks with nine strikeouts.
