Beresford Jr. Legion takes second place at Yankton tournament

Beresford Post 72 Jr. Legion took second place at a tournament held in Yankton last weekend. The team lost to Yankton Post 12 Junior Legion 0-5 during final tournament play on Sunday, June 15.,
Yankton Post 12 were the first to get on the board when Liam Villanueva singled, scoring two runs. Yankton Post 12 Junior Legion extended their early lead with two runs in the bottom of the third, thanks to RBI singles by Villanueva and Madden McQuade.
Ethan Bobzin and Ashton Oberle each collected one hit for Beresford Post 72 Junior Legion.
Beresford took second in the tournament.
Semi-Final Game
Beresford triumphed over Post 15 East JL 17u 11-10 on Sunday after taking the lead late in the game. The game was tied at 10 in the top of the ninth when Hogan Hybertson singled, scoring one run.
Beresford captured the lead, 4-1, in the top of the third when Evan Haak doubled, scoring two runs. Jacob Madsen induced Charlie Eide to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored, and Kasen Voss singled, scoring one run.
Beresford Post 72 Jr. Legion amassed 12 hits in the game. Evan Haak provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Beresford with three runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 1-for-4 on the day. Beresford’s Kasen Voss, the number seven hitter, led Beresford with three hits in three at bats. Tucker Martz and Hogan Hybertson each collected multiple hits for Beresford.
Beresford had patience at the plate, tallying nine walks for the game. Kasen Voss, Ethan Bobzin, and Ashton Oberle led the team with two bases on balls each. Tucker Martz, Kasen Voss, Ian Henderson and Ashton Oberle each stole multiple bases. Beresford stole 10 bases in the game all total.
