The Beresford Area Jr Legion opened the Region 3B Tournament with a 16-3 win over Elk Point-Jefferson on Monday, July 28.
Beresford put three runs on the board right away in the top of the first inning. Elk Point-Jefferson got within a run, 3-2, after two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Beresford’s offense then went on a terror. They scored seven times in the top of the fifth and two more in the top of the sixth for a 12-2 lead. Elk Point-Jefferson kept the game going by scoring a run in the bottom of the sixth. Beresford would get four more runs in the top of the seventh.
Ashot Oberle had two hits, one a double, and two RBIs. Charlie Eide also had two hits with two RBIs. Ethan Bobzin collected a double and single with an RBI. Ian Henderson and Evan Haak each had a single. Lucas Anderson had two RBIs. Kasen Voss pitched all seven innings and allowed three runs, one earned, on five hits and four walks with five strikeouts.
Team Advances
The Beresford Jr Legion team earned their second win of the Region 3B Tournament on Tuesday, July 29. They defeated Canton 16-4 to remain unbeaten in the bracket.
Beresford scored the first seven runs of the game. They got five runs in the top of the fifth and two more in the second. Canton pushed three runs across the plate in the bottom of the third to make the score 7-3, but that was as close as they would get the rest of the game. Beresford scored four times in the top of the fourth for an 11-3 score. After both teams got a run in the fifth inning, Beresford had another four-run inning in the sixth before the game ended on the 10-run rule.
Ethan Bobzin had three hits, including a home run, and three RBIs. Ashton Oberle had two hits. Charlie Eide and Tucker Martz each had a single with two RBIs. Ian Henderson added a double with an RBI. Kasen Voss also had a double, and Lucas Anderson had a single. Evan Haak pitched four innings and allowed three runs, one earned, on five hits and a walk with six strikeouts. Bobzin pitched two innings and allowed an unearned run on a hit and two walks with two strikeouts.
Team Falls in Final Round
Post 72 Jr. Legion fell to Dakota Valley in final round tournament action on Wednesday, July 30. Beresford lost 7-11 to the Panthers, stopping their bid for state.
Ashton Oberle pitched four innings in relief for Beresford. The righty allowed five hits and four runs (two earned), while striking out five and walking three. Tucker Martz took the loss for Beresford. The starter went three innings, surrendering seven runs on seven hits, striking out six and walking two.
Tucker Martz drove the middle of the lineup, leading Beresford with two runs batted in. The pitcher went 1-for-2 on the day. Ethan Bozin led Beresford with three hits in four at bats. Beresford had a strong eye at the plate, amassing seven walks for the game. Lucas Anderson, Martz, and Charlie Eide led the team with two walks each. Beresford turned one double play in the game.
