Blood supplies in urgent need status

Blood drive planned in Beresford July 14

With local blood supplies moving into an urgent need status, due to summer demands, Sanford Beresford Clinic, and Community Blood Bank are partnering up to impact local lives. A community blood will be held at Sanford Beresford Clinic (600 W. Cedar St, Beresford) from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on July 14 with donor registration located in the main entrance.

All blood types are in immediate need, and community volunteers are the only way to improve the summer blood supply. Schedule a donation by logging onto www.cbblifeblood.org, selecting “Donate Blood & Blood Drive Calendar”, and July 14 or call us at 605-331-3222. To show appreciation for this life-saving act, donors will receive a $15 Burger King gift card. However, the greatest reward will be knowing you’ve potentially saved up to three lives with a single donation.

“Right now, patients in our community are depending on the generosity of their neighbors,” states Ken Versteeg, Executive Director, Community Blood Bank. “Unfortunately, blood demands takes no vacation, and our local hospital patients are in need of blood. Consider donating blood as cancer patients, accident victims, mothers giving birth, and children needing surgery require blood to sustain life. Without adequate blood supplies, we cannot provide the care they desperately need. We cannot manufacture blood – it can only come from caring community members like you.”

The reality is stark: Every two seconds, someone in America needs blood. Local hospitals are currently operating with critically low reserves, putting vulnerable patients at risk.

Can you donate? Requirements include: Be at least 17 years old (16 with signed parent consent); weigh 110 lbs. or more; be in good general health; bring valid ID; and eat and drink plenty of fluids beforehand.

This is your community. These are your neighbors. The time to act is NOW.

Community Blood Bank serves as the sole blood provider to all Sioux Falls area hospitals. Your donation stays local to serve local patients who are counting on you. For more information: www.cbblifeblood.org or call 605-331-3222.
