This weekend, Fleurish Flower Farm will host its first-ever, two-day flower festival entitled Fleurish Fest. The event runs Saturday, July 19, from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. and Sunday, July 20, from 1 until 8 p.m.
Explains Christy Heckathorn, owner of Fleurish Flower Farm: “Fleurish Fest is more than just an event—it’s a celebration of flowers, creativity, and community. Whether you’re local or just visiting the area, it’s a unique chance to experience a working flower farm. From picking your own flowers to enjoying live music, food, and curated local vendors, the festival offers something for everyone. And with our proximity to Beresford and nearby towns, it’s a perfect weekend outing. Weather permitting, you will probably see some planes fly over the flowers too!”
While at the farm, pick your own blooms, create a DIY floral crown, enjoy live music, shop from hand-selected artisan vendors, grab a bite to eat, and soak in the atmosphere of a working flower farm starting to show its colors. Vendors on site will include Beresford’s Rainy Day Coffee Co., Wake & Bake, and KR Bodacious Burgers and Bowls.
“It’s a great event for families, couples, friend groups, or anyone looking for something beautiful and joyful to do in the region,” said Heckathorn. “Fleurish Fest is really just me sharing my favorite things with others—flowers, music, good food, and thoughtfully curated items from small local businesses. I’ve hand-picked every vendor because they create something I genuinely love and believe in. It’s not a huge commercial event—it’s more like welcoming people into something personal and meaningful. My hope is that when visitors come to the farm, they feel that sense of care and connection in every detail.”
This weekend’s event replaces the farm’s former weekly you-pick nights. A similar Fall into Fleurish Fest is being planned for later in the year.
Explained Heckathorn: “We’ve moved away from weekly events to focus on a few meaningful, well-curated festivals—and we’re so proud to feature several Beresford businesses who’ve been an important part of our journey.”
Fleurish Flower Farm began in 2021, nestled in the grassy fields of southeastern South Dakota near Elk Point. What started as a dream rooted in a love of nature and beauty has grown into a working flower farm offering seasonal you-pick flowers, wedding florals, and special community events.
“We grow a wide variety of specialty cut flowers and invite guests to slow down, reconnect with nature, and gather beauty straight from the field,” said Heckathorn. “Whether it’s through creating a bouquet or simply wandering the garden paths, we want visitors to leave feeling inspired and refreshed. We also have our own well-maintained and fully registered grass runway for local pilots to fly in and attend our farm events.”
During this weekend’s event, it will not be uncommon to see small planes coming and going, taking in the ariel views of the flowers.
Heckathorn encourages everyone to come check out the beauty and power of flowers.
“My love of flowers is deeply personal,” she says. “They’ve brought healing, hope, and beauty into some of the hardest seasons of life. There’s something incredibly life-giving about watching something grow and bloom—then being able to share that beauty with others. As for a favorite, it’s hard to choose, but I really love dahlias. They require a lot of work, but they are incredibly beautiful and become the star of any bouquet.”
Fleurish Flower Farm is located at 47663 SD Hwy 50, Elk Point. Admission to the event is $5 per person. Kids 12 and under are free.
